How to Set Up a Purposeful Preschool Room

Given your unique space, consider organizing your room to best fit the needs and traffic patterns of your children.

Ask yourself these questions when designing your space:

  1. What is the purpose of each space in your room?
  2. Where will quiet places in my room be? Where will louder activities happen?
Consider putting loud and quiet activity spaces in opposite parts of your room.
  3. Where will children do projects that make a wet mess? Where are items that need to stay dry located?
  4. Where will the children walk and move around the room?
    Consider making pathways.
  5. How can I make cozy corners and big open areas for different group sizes?
Consider hanging fabric from the ceiling to define spaces.
  6. What safety precautions do I need to consider?
